B777 crahed blamed on ice
The UK´s air accidents investigation branch has realised an interim report on the accident involving a Britihs Airways Boeing 777 at London Heathrow on 17/1, 2008. The results suggest ice was the "most probable" cause, restricting fuel low to the engines. The aircraft lost power on finals and landed around 1,100ft (350m) short of the threshold of the runway. Although it suffered substantail demage, there wasn´t post-crash fire, only 13 of the 152 onboared were injured, albeit one seriously. As a result of the findings, tha FAA has issued on air worthiness directive (AD) affecting Rolls-Royce RB211 Trent 800 - powered B777 - 200/300s that are operated in extremly cold temperatures. The AD requires revision of the aircraft flight manual to include in-flight procedures for pilot to follow in certain cold weather condition and for fuel circulation on the ground.
