Smartwings Expands Fleet Amid Operational Challenges

On Sunday, June 16, the final summer addition for Smartwings arrived in Warsaw: a Boeing 737-800 from Sunwing Airlines, registered as C-GLRN (built in 2017). The Smartwings group now boasts a fleet of 53 aircraft: 3 Airbus A320s, 2 B737-700s, 36 B737-800s, 2 B737-900ERs, and 10 Boeing 737 MAX 8s. This count excludes the Cessna aircraft operated by sister carrier UGJet.

On Thursday, June 6, the last Czech aircraft leased to Sunwing Airlines returned from Canada. This Boeing 737-800, registered as OK-TVL, arrived from Toronto via Keflavik still bearing its Canadian registration, C-GKVL.

Six Czech aircraft are based in Cologne, flying summer routes for Eurowings. These are OK-TSE, OK-TSF, OK-TSO, OK-TVT, OK-TVU, and OK-TVV aircraft.

Recently, Smartwings has been dealing with numerous flight delays. Passengers on the Saturday charter flight QS1118 from Prague to Zakynthos did not arrive on the Greek island until Sunday, with a 23-hour delay. The delay was exacerbated by the diversion of the original Saturday return fl
